Abodo Wooden Decking and the Indian climate

  • Ultimate Durability: The Vulcan decking boards undergo Abodo’s heat modification process and are treated with OPX treatment which provides it excellent resistance to termites and fungus* besides adding more repulsion to water. This treatment ensures exceptional durability, even in termite-prone areas. The premium-grade, reeded face enhances weathering characteristics and provides a secure grip underfoot, making it a long-lasting choice for your decking needs. If you prefer a plain surface and a narrow decking board in a lighter tone, Abodo’s Sand + decking would be a great option.
  • Ultimate Stability: Abodo Vulcan Decking’s modification process reduces resin content, resulting in outstanding stability in all weather conditions. The natural timber offers a beautiful, consistent brown tone that gracefully ages to a silver finish, complementing a wide range of architectural styles. Unlike most hardwoods, Vulcan Decking doesn’t require pre-drilling, making it easy to work with for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

Abodo Wooden Decking and the Indian climate

How does Abodo wooden decking perform in India’s diverse climate?

Abodo Vulcan Decking is designed to perform exceptionally well in India’s diverse climate, from the hot and humid regions to cooler, drier areas. The Vulcan decking boards undergo a modification process and are treated with OPX treatment, making it highly resistant to moisture, decay, and termites. This ensures your decking remains stable and beautiful, even under harsh weather conditions, making it an ideal choice for luxury homes across India. In case you are looking for a lighter color tone, we can recommend Abodo’s Sand + decking. While it is not as stable as Vulcan in fully exposed applications, with its narrower boards, it provides a sleeker and more modern appeal. In shaded outdoor areas, it performs nicely.

Please note that Vulcan and Sand decking being real wood, the coating will fade out as it gets exposed to sun and rain. It can be re oiled to get the original color back though. If the decking is under shade, the color stays much longer. Periodic washing with a mild detergent and water would help in keeping it clean.

What is the maintenance routine for Abodo wooden decking in India?

Abodo wooden decking by Span Floors requires a straightforward maintenance routine to keep it looking its best. First is periodic cleaning using a mild household detergent and water. Second is to oil it again as and when needed. Depending on how exposed your decking it to the weather, it will fade to a light gray tone over a period of time. When that happens, it is time to recoat it. Refer to the exact maintenance guidelines as provided by our team.

How does Abodo wooden decking compare to WPC decking in terms of aesthetics, durability & sustainability?

Abodo wood decks offer a warmth and natural beauty that WPC (wood-plastic composite) decking cannot match. People go for synthetic alternatives as they presume them to be low maintenance. This is not true in all cases. For example, once your WPC decks start to fade over the years you would not be able to revive it back. Similarly, the WPC planks may start to turn brittle and crack (depending on the quality) and require replacement.

Abodo’s Vulcan decking can be installed uncoated or oiled, depending on your choice. Unoiled, it would weather to a nice light gray over a period of time and becomes maintenance free practically in terms of re oiling. The added advantage is that in case you change your mind and want to give it color, being real wood, you always have the possibility of sanding the surface and oil it using Abodo’s Protector oil and coloring it to your desired tone. This is not possible with WPC decking.

In addition, being resistant to termites, you have a similar characteristic to WPC. In terms of sustainability – its impact on the environment, Abodo decking boards are a superior option as they have an overall low carbon footprint. They come from FSC certified forests and use much less energy during production and disposal at the end of life.

How does Abodo Vulcan wooden decking compare to other wood deckings available in the Indian market such as Ipe, thermo ash and thermo pine?

Due to its proprietary treatments, it is more stable than Ipe that is generally available in India. This means that your decking planks look more beautiful in the long run. The planks remain much more straight and flat. The longer lengths provide much lesser joints resulting in a premium, luxury look. The reeded surface also makes it more slip resistant during the times when your deck is wet. Compared to thermo ash and pine, the resistance to termites is a huge advantage. Abodo decking comes with an unmatched warranty against termites which is a necessity in the Indian climatic conditions.

Can Abodo wooden decking be customized to match specific design requirements?

Yes, our decking can be highly customized to meet specific design requirements. With Abodo Decking, you can choose from various color tones and patterns like straight planks, Chevron, Herringbone or a bespoke pattern to complement your architectural style and desired aesthetic. This allows for seamless integration into your overall landscape or exterior design.
